Hi from Deux-Sèvres

Post by sarros » 12 Jul 2012, 11:49

Just wanted to say hi to everyone out there and introduce myself. Since moving to France a few years' ago, I've found myself an avid lover and breeder of chickens. As you all know, its so addictive so when I unsuspectingly got my first hybrids I certainly didn't realise that I'd get into chooks so much that I'd be showing them and breeding them...for fun!

I breed LF Laced Wyandottes but my favourite breed is the ever-so-docile Brahma...they're big, beautiful and have hairy legs like me (only kidding, about the hairy legs part!!)! I've had my ups and downs with them and occasionally feel like giving it all up, but I can't help myself when one of my Brahmas, Nell, comes up and just starts chatting to me about her day :sunny:

I'm lucky enough to live in France and have some land and old stone buildings at my disposal. I work full time so can't breed as many as I'd like as I wouldn't have the time to care for them all properly. I still reckon retirement is best to take when you're young, and then work later on in life!!

Sarros - I've had a look at your website, and your Wyandottes look lovely. What a shame I'm so far away from you!

I spotted you Mojo on the map - you aren't far at all! Goatlady - I can send them via a transport company but its pricey and I don't really like to cause the stress on the birds, even though they're in specially-built boxes. Thank you for your kind comments re the website and my birds - the site is new and I've only officially been breeding the Dottes since 2011 but love it! If ever you're passing this way......!

yoo hoo from a little further south. Good website, cute chooks!!!
my chooks: Sage&Onion, Roger the randy cockerel, Squawkbox, Bonnie 'N' Clyde, Pancakes, Custard, Omelette & EggNog. Plus four garden cats and another half dozen feral ones that I feed. And a nursery of pipistrelle bats in the verandah roof ..
