Re: Cockerels Pekins

You could try "Breeders & Feeders" on Facebook....or learn how to cull them yourself :( It's horrible, I know, I have had to do it in the past. Never easy but sometimes it's the only thing to do.

Re: How long Can Eggs Stay Viable if Hen Leaving Them.

Agree....half an hour - no problem. One of mine sometimes leaves her eggs and goes off for a chat with the girls (through the wire)...and has a bite to eat....and another chat...bit of a drink...poo....another chat....another bite to eat...and ambles back in her own time. Gets me biting my nails eve...

Re: What age

Every day is fine, as long as it's not making their droppings too loose. Otherwise 2 - 4 times a week is absolutely fine.

Re: What age

Feeding requirements are usually: up to 6-8 weeks....chick crumbs. up to l8-20 weeks...growers pellets. Then after that...layers pellets. A bowl of grit. I usually use mixed grit (contains oystershell plus grit) Clean water. Greens occasionally. That's all they need really. The pellets contain every...

Re: Broody hen on day 21

It also helps if you candle them - day 10 or thereabouts. Then you'll know which are clears. I once had an egg hatch on day 28. There's still hope. I actually took it away from the broody on day 27, floated it...thought...hmm...probably a dud..but the broody was shrieking so loud that I put it back....

Re: Total Newbie Good Advice Needed

diane garden vignette2.jpg Pekins are pretty , friendly and reasonable layers and don't do too much damage. I would create a veg garden and fence it off...(that's what I've done). and then just put a few hardy shrubs around and go from there. I have pekins who free range during the day and I keep m...

Re: Hen not laying

Try laying your hand gently on her back - if she squats down then she's sure to lay very soon.

Re: Least noisy small hen for pet?

My silkie was almost silent...and the pekins make hardly any noise - they just toddle about mumbling to themselves. They have a little bit of a squark when they've laid an egg...but that's about it really.

This could be it - from the Poultry Club of Great Britain. MYCOPLASMA IN POULTRY: WHAT IT IS AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT Introduction Mycoplasma in poultry is not a new disease.
