Re: Fig Tree Jungle

When the leaves sprout, get out the glyphosate and spray and spray. It may take some time but if you keep at it, they will die.

Re: MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!

No Christmas here at all :( Hubby started in November with two colds in 6 weeks, then head shingles, followed by Bell's Palsy ending up with Gastritis caused by the steroids for the Bells Palsy. Christmas dinner is still in the freezer and I anticipate it being there until around Easter..... Still, ...

Re: Winter shelter

Lots of dramatic snow storms on Thursday - near white out occasionally. All gone the next day. When I kept hens (regretting not having them, but it makes no sense now) I did give them porridge on really cold days but that was my limit. Now I do the same for the wild birds instead.

Re: Rabbits!

A pet rabbit was dumped on me years ago and I cared for him for 4 years after which he succumbed to mixy - I had assumed that one vaccination per year was sufficient, that was what the vet said. Subsequently discovered it should have been two! Gutted. Just saying, if you think your rabbit may be vis...

Re: Fermenting veg and stuff!

How did the fermented eggs turn out? Can't say I'm a huge fan of pickled eggs though would eat one with a salad.

Re: Fermenting veg and stuff!

I do make my own yoghurt but that's as far as it goes. There are only the two of us and we eat amazingly little, so I have stopped most of my preserving ways. I used to do a lot of jam and jelly making and ginger beer making and bread making of all sorts. There is very little tradition is this count...

Re: Starting Out - Quick guide to starting up.

Hi there Sihitch If you grow veg or value your flowers then chickens are not for you unless you enclose them. They will wreck your garden and eat many of your plants and scratch up the rest. Yes they will put themselves to bed once they have established that you mean them to use the henhouse you pro...

Re: Persistent Feather Loss/Pecking?

I've only ever put stockholm tar on horses' feet! There are anti-feather pecking solutions out there - very bitter stuff as I recall, like bitter aloes for fingernail biters. Only marginally effective and must be re-applied if it rains. In desperation I used beak bits They seem cruel but don't actua...

You can use it and many people do - all down to a question of cost.
